Adjusting the gas thrust (BMW 5 Series E39)

Note: The gas rod is very sensitive to longitudinal fracture, so it must be handled very carefully during installation. One slight longitudinal fracture can later lead to breakage during movement. Therefore, rods that have been bent cannot be installed.

In cars with the automatic cruise control system (Tempomat), an additional gas rod is installed on the throttle lever. If necessary, this rod can be removed in the same way as the regular rod.

Adjustment

Press the accelerator pedal to the full load position and secure it in this position. To do this, insert a suitable board between the seat and the accelerator pedal.

Press the throttle lever to the full load position and turn the adjusting nut at the rubber support "1" until the gas rod is taut, see the following figure. Release the accelerator pedal.

Removal the gas rod from the throttle lever

Apply throttle to loosen the throttle linkage.

Pull nipple "2" out of the segment.

Remove the gas rod housing from the rubber insert of the counter support "1".

Installation of gas thrust

Insert the cable traction through the rubber insert of the counter support.

Slightly increase the gas with the throttle lever and insert the cable nipple into place. Check the gas rod adjustment.
