Removal and installation the throttle valve pipe (BMW 5 Series E39)

The throttle body consists of the ASC+T pre-tube and the main tube. ASC+T System Data are given here.

Removal


Compress the wire clamps and disconnect the plug connectors "1" and "2".

Move the lever "3" of the ASC+T throttle valve so as to loosen the cable nipple. Pull the nipple out of the segment.

Disconnect the engine crankcase ventilation hose at the bottom of the air intake hose.

Loosen clamp "4" on the air intake hose and remove the hose.

Loosen clamp «4» on the air intake hose and remove the hose.


Unscrew bolts "2" and remove the pipe.

Unscrew 4 bolts "1" and remove the intermediate element.

Note: Replace seal "3" if damaged; lubricate with technical petroleum jelly or non-acidic grease before installation.


Apply throttle to loosen throttle rod nipple, see Figure W-2259. Pull nipple "2" out of segment. Pull throttle rod housing out of rubber insert of counter support "1".



Loosen the clamps and remove the coolant hoses of the throttle heating system from the pipe.

Note: Some coolant will leak out, prepare a container for draining. Treat coolant as special waste.

Unscrew the bolts and remove the pipe together with the seal. Always replace the seal.

Installation



Attach the pipe with a new seal and tighten the mounting bolts.

Install the coolant hoses and secure them with clamps. Top up the coolant level.

Hang and adjust the gas traction.

Screw on the intermediate element and the throttle body of the ASC+T system. Do not forget about the seal "3", see above figure W-22B3. Fasten the air intake hose.

Hang the ASC+T system cable traction. In the initial position, the cable traction should have a gap of 0.5 to 1.0 mm; if necessary, adjust it at the counter support.

Connect and secure both plug connectors.

Read the contents of the fault code memory. After troubleshooting, erase the contents of the memory.
