Withdrawal
Unscrew the oil filler cap. Use a narrow screwdriver to pry off the small covers -arrows- and loosen the bolts underneath. Remove the 2 plastic linings from the engine.
Disconnect plug connectors for oxygen sensors. Disconnect plug from VANOS solenoid valve.
Remove plug cover for valve injectors and lay to one side.
Caution: Fire hazard, no smoking. The fuel supply system is under pressure. Collect escaping fuel with a cloth. Release the clamps and first disconnect the fuel supply hose -1- (coming from the fuel filter), then the fuel outlet hose -2- from the distribution manifold. After releasing the clamps, always replace them with new ones.
Note: On some models, the fuel supply line is screwed directly onto the manifold. In this case, during installation, the sealing ring must always be replaced with a new one and lubricated with technical vaseline.
Another possible design is the fastening of hoses with clamps. In this case, the special tool BMW 161050 is required to release the clamps. Check the sealing ring before installing it, replace the damaged ring.
Unscrew securing bolts -arrows- for fuel manifold.
Detach vacuum hose from connection -1- of fuel pressure regulator. (2 - fuel outlet fitting; 3 - place of attachment).
Pull the fuel manifold complete with valve injectors upwards from the cylinder head. The valve injectors are only inserted into the cylinder head and can be pulled out freely.
Remove clips -4- from side and remove valve injectors.
Installation
Insert the valve injectors into the distribution manifold and secure with clips.
Lubricate O-rings -1- with Vaseline or SAE 90 gear oil.
Insert valve injectors complete with distribution manifold into the cylinder head.
Attention: When installing valve injectors, make sure that O-rings -1- are not damaged. Replace damaged O-rings, paying attention to installation position of O-ring -3-. Lubricate O-rings -1- before stopping only with Vaseline or gear oil.
Tighten the 2 fuel rail mounting bolts.
Connect the fuel hoses to the fuel manifold and secure them with new clamps or o-rings, see illustration. "Withdrawal".
Fit the plug-in trim onto the valve injectors.
Install and secure both engine covers, tighten the oil filler cap.
Read the contents of the DMe system trouble code memory. After troubleshooting, erase the contents of the drive.
