Checking and adjusting idle speed and CO level on a gasoline engine
Check and adjust idle speed and CO level on a gasoline engine in the following order.
- Install gauges on the engine (tachometer and gas analyzer). Install the gas analyzer on the exhaust manifold of the engine, if equipped with an exhaust gas catalytic converter.
- Manual adjustment of idle speed is not possible, it is necessary to check the tightness of the intake system and the operation of the idle valve.
- The CO content in the exhaust gas is adjusted by changing the position of the adjusting screw, which is installed under the protective plug on the air flow meter (IRS). The indication of the instruments must comply with the requirements of the documentation.
- After the adjustment is completed, install the protective cap.
Checking and adjusting idle speed on a diesel engine

- uneven operation of the engine is detected by ear;
- loosen the locknut on the screw for adjusting the engine crankshaft speed on the injection pump;
- turn the screwdriver to set the required value of the engine shaft speed, while holding the screwdriver, tighten the lock nut. When screwing in the screw, the speed increases, and the throttle control lever moves outward.
