Checking and adjusting idle speed and CO levels on a gasoline engine

Check and adjust idle speed and CO level on a gasoline engine in the following order.
  • Install measuring instruments on the engine (tachometer and gas analyzer). The gas analyzer should be installed on the engine exhaust manifold if it is equipped with a catalytic converter.
  • Manual adjustment of idle speed is not possible, it is necessary to check the tightness of the intake system and the functioning of the idle valve. The speed is adjusted automatically according to the ECU KSUD program.
  • The CO content in the exhaust gas is adjusted by changing the position of the adjusting screw, which is installed under the protective plug, on the air flow meter (AFM). The readings of the devices must comply with the requirements of the documentation.
  • After completing the adjustment, install the protective plug.

Checking and adjusting idle speed on a diesel engine

Check and adjust idle speed on a diesel engine in the following order:
  • install a tachometer on a warm engine;
  • uneven engine operation is detected by ear;
  • loosen the lock nut on the engine crankshaft speed adjustment screw on the high-pressure fuel pump;
  • turn the screwdriver to set the required engine speed, hold the screwdriver and tighten the lock nut. When you screw the screw in, the speed increases and the gas control lever moves outward.
