Checking the washer reservoir level (BMW X5 E53)

The windshield and headlight washer fluid is located in a plastic tank on the right side of the engine compartment (Fig. 2.24). The fluid level (7.8 l) in the tank is monitored by an indicator.



In temperate climates, the system can be filled with plain water, but the reservoir should be no more than two-thirds full to allow for expansion when the water freezes. In cold climates, a special windshield washer antifreeze should be used to lower the freezing point of the fluid.

Warning! Do not use antifreeze in the cooling system, as it damages the paintwork.
