Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Remove the intake manifold.
Loosen the cap screw (1) on the injection pump.
Screw in an adapter instead of a blanking bolt (1) and pointer indicator (2) and pull it up a little (provide preload.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise in the direction of the TDC of the first cylinder until the indicator needle remains at its deepest point for a while. The start of the turn should be at least 60-90°before TDC. The first cylinder piston will then be at TDC when both cams of the first cylinder on the drive chain side are pointing up. To check, remove the oil filler cap and check the cams.
To crank the engine, engage fifth gear, release the parking brake and move the vehicle. You can also apply the parking brake, place the transmission in neutral and turn the crankshaft at the pulley center bolt using a socket.
Set the dial indicator to zero.
Pull out the plug (1) from the cylinder block.
Turn the crankshaft clockwise two turns until a suitable rod or drill can be inserted through the bore in the cylinder block at TDC into the flywheel bore.
Attention: Do not rotate the motor in reverse direction, as this will result in incorrect measurement results.
Now the dial indicator should show a rise of 0.95 + 0.02 mm with a new drive chain.
Attention: With a drive chain with a mileage of more than 20 thousand km, the indicator should show a rise of 0.90 + 0.02 mm.
If the specified values are not achieved, the injection pump must be adjusted.
Loosen the bolt (3), without unscrewing it.
Loosen nuts (1) And (2).
Caution: Do not loosen the nuts too much, 2-3 turns, to prevent tension from the chain.
Rotate the injection pump until the dial indicator shows the desired value.
Tighten nuts and bolt in sequence from 1 to 3 to 25 Nm.
Remove the fixing rod and check the adjustment again. At the same time, turn the crankshaft only to the right.
Remove the dial gauge and rod.
Insert the plug into the cylinder block.
Install the central blind bolt with a new O-ring and tighten to 25 Nm.
Install the oil filler cap.
Install the intake manifold.
Connect the negative cable to the battery.
Start the engine, if necessary, removing air from the injection system.
After the test drive, check the tightness of the central plug bolt and, if necessary, tighten the bolt.
