It is recommended to regularly repair even the smallest paint damage, as this prevents rust and more serious damage from developing.
To remove small dents and stone chips that damage only the surface layer of paint without reaching the metal, it is enough to apply a coat of paint. You can use a paint can with a lid and a brush, as well as self-adhesive film with paint if the damage is very small or the primer is not damaged.
Deeper damage, which has already formed a spot or strip of rust, should be treated with a rust brush or cleaned with a knife or a small screwdriver to bare metal. There should be no trace of rust left. The cleaned areas should be dry and degreased. To do this, they should be cleaned with a special compound.
Apply a thin layer of primer to the metal surface using a brush. Since primer is often found in aerosol cans, you can spray a little primer into the can cap and dip the brush into it.
After the primer has dried, paint the primed area. Often, small cans have a brush built into the lid. If the paint is in a spray can, then in this case you also need to spray the paint into the lid of the can and then dip a small brush into it. When painting, apply only one thin layer of paint at a time so that the paint does not run. Then you need to let the paint dry. Repeat the process until the recess is filled and the repair site is flush with the surrounding painted surface.
