Engine Mounting Brackets — Inspection and Replacement (BMW 7 Series E32)
Engine mount brackets rarely require attention, but broken or damaged brackets should be replaced immediately.
During inspection, the engine should be slightly raised to relieve the load on the brackets.
Jack up the car and support it securely on axle stands. Support the oil pan with a jack, placing a large block of wood between them, then carefully lift the engine.
Make sure the rubber bracket pads are not cracked, hardened or separated from the metal plates.
Try to move the engine by inserting a large screwdriver or pry bar between it and the bracket. Place the screwdriver between the bracket and the body and try again. If movement is possible, lower the engine and tighten the mounting nuts or bolts.
To replace the brackets, disconnect the ground cable from the battery, then jack up the vehicle and support it securely on axle stands.
Support the engine.
Remove the large nut that secures the cushion to the bracket. Raise the engine slightly, then remove the bolts/nuts securing the bracket to the body and separate the bracket.
Perform installation in reverse order.
