Drive shaft boot — replacement (BMW 7 Series E32)
Removal
Remove the drive shaft.
Use side cutters to cut the inner hinge boot clamp.

Use a punch to pry the cover off the hinge ring.

Press the rubber boot away from the hinge ring and slide it onto the shaft.
Remove the grease from the CV joint with a rag.
Compress the retaining ring with special splines and remove it.

Press the shaft out of the inner CV joint (2) using a suitable mandrel (1). In doing so, place the ball hub on the support plate (3).

Check the joint (CV joint) for dirt or damage and, if necessary, replace it.
Clean the dirty joint, for which it is necessary to disassemble it. In this case, it is necessary to mark the position of the hub, bearing separator and joint parts relative to each other from the end surface.
Pull the inner cover off (from the checkpoint) through the drive shaft.
If necessary, cut the rubber boot clamps on the outer joint and pull the boot over the back of the shaft, being careful not to let dirt get into the joint.
Installation

A complete repair kit is used to replace the cover. For cars with high mileage, it is also recommended to replace the second rubber cover.
Thoroughly clean the CV joint in its assembled state.
Put on new rubber boots. At the same time, cover the sharp edges of the shaft with a suitable bushing or adhesive tape so as not to damage the boots.

Fill the joint with fresh grease.
Note: Special grease is included in the repair kit with covers.
Install the inner CV joint and drive shaft.
Clamp the drive shaft in a vice using the clamping device (1).

Press the CV joint until it stops using a suitable pipe (2). Remove the clamping device.
Install the new retaining ring using suitable pliers, making sure it fits correctly in the groove.
Fill the CV joints and rubber boots of the outer and inner joints with special grease.

Amount of grease:
- inner CV joint - 85 g;
- outer CV joint - 100 g.
Apply a thin layer of sealant to the sealing surfaces of the cover. Press the cover with the pressure ring.
Lubricate the sealing surfaces of the cover cover with a thin layer of the same sealant. Press the cover with the pressure ring.
Secure the rubber boot to the boot cover with a clamp. Make sure that the lock of the large boot is between the two holes of the CV joint.
Put on the rubber boot of the outer CV joint and secure it with a large diameter.
Place the covers over the drive shaft protrusions and secure them with clamps.

Install the drive shaft.
