Withdrawal
Remove the drive shaft.
Cut the collar of the inner hinge cover with side cutters.
Press the cover off the hinge ring with a punch.
Depress the rubber boot from the pivot ring and slide it on the shaft.
Remove hinge grease with a rag (SHRUS).
Squeeze the retaining ring with special slots and remove it.
Press out the shaft with a suitable mandrel (1) from inner CV joint (2). In this case, you need to put the ball hub on the base plate (3).
Check hinge (SHRUS) for dirt or damage and replace if necessary.
Clean the contaminated hinge, for which it needs to be disassembled. In this case, it is necessary to mark the position of the hub, the bearing separator and the hinge part relative to each other from the end surface.
Pull off the inner cover (from the checkpoint) through the drive shaft.
If necessary, cut the rubber boot straps on the outer pivot and pull the boot over the back of the shaft. Make sure that dirt does not get into the hinge.
Installation
A complete repair kit is used to replace the cover. For vehicles with high mileage, it is also recommended to replace the second rubber boot.
Thoroughly clean the CV joint in the assembled state.
Put on new rubber boots. At the same time, cover sharp-edged points on the shaft with a suitable sleeve or adhesive tape so as not to damage the covers.
Fill the joint with fresh grease.
Attention: Special grease is available in the repair kit with covers.
Put on the inner CV joint and drive shaft.
Clamp the drive shaft in a vise using a jig (1).
Press the CV joint to the stop using a suitable pipe (2). Remove the clamp.
Install the new retaining ring with suitable pliers, paying attention to its correct fit in the groove.
Fill the CV joints and rubber boots of the outer and inner joints with special grease.
Amount of lubricant:
- inner CV joint - 85 g;
- outer CV joint - 100 g.
Lubricate the sealing surfaces of the cover with a thin layer of sealant. Press the cover with the pressure ring.
Lubricate the sealing surfaces of the boot cover with a thin layer of the same sealant. Press the cover with the pressure ring.
Fasten the rubber boot to the cover of the boot with a clamp. Pay attention to the fact that the lock of the large boot is between the two holes of the CV joint.
Put on the rubber boot of the outer CV joint and secure its large diameter.
Put on the covers on the protrusions of the drive shaft and secure them with clamps.
Install the drive shaft.
