Removal and installation of exhaust manifolds (BMW 7 Series E38)

If the installed boost air hoses are not degreased and are damp, this may lead to turbocharger failure.


1. Remove the lower protective cover.

2. Remove the left turbocharger (see section Removal and installation a turbocharger Chapters Fuel and exhaust systems).

3. Loosen the exhaust manifold mounting nuts and remove it.

4. Clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder head and replace the exhaust manifold gasket.

5. Lubricate the threaded studs with a thin layer of copper paste. Use new exhaust manifold mounting nuts.
