Removal and installation the cylinder head



1. Remove the cylinder head cover.

2. Drain the coolant.

3. Remove the air conditioning compressor drive belt.

4. Remove the generator drive belt.

5. Remove the vacuum pump.

6. Remove the camshafts.

Attention:
  • Replace the cylinder head bolts.
  • Do not wash off the coating from the bolts.
  • There should be no oil or coolant in the blind holes (risk of cracking).
  • Protect the generator from contamination with engine oil and coolant.
  • Cover the generator.
  • The boost air hoses must be dry and free of grease.


7. Loosen the bolts (1) and (2) securing the exhaust turbocharger (3).

8. Loosen the clamp (1) and disconnect the exhaust turbocharger from the exhaust manifold.

Note: The clamp must be replaced during installation.




9. Remove the bolts (3) on the rear of the cylinder head.

10. Remove all pusher levers (1) and fold them in order.

11. Remove all compensators (2) and put them in order.

Please note: Used camshaft tappet arms can only be used with the same camshaft lobes.


12. Unscrew the screws (1).

Note: During installation, it is necessary to replace the cylinder head mounting bolts.

14. If necessary, remove the glow plugs using tool 116050.

Tightening torque: 18 Nm.

15. Remove the cylinder head.

  • When installing, pay attention to the number of marking holes (2) in the cylinder head gasket.
  • Clean all blind threaded holes (3) on the crankcase from oil and coolant.
  • Clean the sealing surface (4).

  • Clean the sealing surface of the cylinder head and block.
  • Remove any remaining sealant with a hardwood scraper.
  • If the piston bottom protrusion changes (for example, replacing pistons), then it is necessary to determine the thickness of the cylinder head gasket again.

  • The joints between the timing cover and the cylinder block are sealed using serially glued sealing strips.
  • It is not necessary to apply sealant in these areas.

Note: Transitions (2) must be absolutely free of grease.


18. Install a new cylinder head gasket.

21. Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence 1...14.

Tightening torque: 50 Nm + 90° + 90°.

Note: Use tool 009120 to tighten to the specified angle.

23. Lubricate the camshaft bearing beds and caps with engine oil.

24. Install all push rods and compensation elements.

25. Assemble the engine.
