Checking disc runout (BMW X5 E53)

Checking the lateral and radial runout of a wheel disk on a balancing stand must be carried out in the following order. Dismount the tire from the disk on a special stand, remove the existing balancing weights and clean the disk from dirt. Install the wheel on the balancing stand.

Using the test fixture (fig. 15.13), which consists of a faceplate (1) with a centering belt (2), a standard flange (3) and a tension nut (4), install the wheel on the balancing stand.



Install the measuring device (fig. 15.14) on the surface of the rim seat. The measuring device must be installed strictly vertically in relation to the plane of the tread running track. Turning the wheel by hand, measure the maximum radial runout and compare it with the technical specifications. Perform measurements on both rim seats of the BMW X5 E35.



Install the measuring device (fig. 15.15) to the side edge of the rim. The measuring device must be installed strictly vertically in relation to the plane of the sidewall of the rim. Turning the wheel by hand, measure the maximum lateral runout and compare it with the technical characteristics. Take the measurement on both edges of the rim.

Attention! Avoid mistakes when subsequently mounting the tire.
