Replacing a punctured tire (BMW X5 E53)

            0

To avoid disturbing the wheel imbalance, it is necessary to replace it in the following order. Loosen the mounting bolts of the wheel to be removed. Using a mobile or garage jack, lift up the part of the car where the wheel will be replaced. Place stops (wedges) under the wheels.

Turn the wheel with the valve facing down (lower arrow, Fig. 15.8). Apply alignment marks (chalk, water-based paint) on the tire of the wheel, if several wheels are removed at the same time. Mark the position of the wheel relative to the hub. Mark the position of the bolt with the "secret" relative to the wheel (top arrow). Remove the wheel bolts and remove the wheel.

Caution! Use only wheel bolts with a separate cone in its central part.

When installing the wheel, the contact surfaces of the brake disc and the wheel rim, as well as the brake disc and the wheel hub, must be degreased with a universal cleaner (like white spirit or technical alcohol).

If there are traces of grease in the area of the holes for the wheel bolts, it is necessary to remove the brake disc and clean it.

Do not lubricate new wheel bolts. Use only wrenches with human force to loosen and tighten wheel bolts.

Using the device "36.1.250", remove dirt, grease residues and traces of corrosion from the contact surface (1, Fig. 15.9) brake disc and wheel disk.

Check the position of the screw (1, see Fig. 11.27) brake disc fastenings.

Check the position of the screw (1, see Fig. 11.27) brake disc fastenings.

The screw must not protrude beyond the mating plane of the brake and wheel discs. Lightly lubricate the centering element (1, Fig. 15.10) wheel disk.

Before installation, clean the wheel mounting bolts and check the condition of the threads; damage to the threads is unacceptable. Bolts that show signs of corrosion must be replaced.

Caution! For used wheel bolts, lightly lubricate the threaded and conical parts before screwing in (fig. 15.11) engine oil.

The wheel disc must fit evenly against the brake disc.

To loosen and tighten bolts with a secret nut, use the adapter from the "36.1.300" tool.

Screw in the wheel bolts (fig. 15.11) and tighten them by hand in a crisscross pattern to center the wheel rim. Lower the vehicle (put on wheels), load it by rocking it in a vertical plane.

Check the position of the wheel (arrows, Fig. 15.12) and tighten the wheel bolts (M14) in a crosswise pattern using a torque wrench to a torque of 140.0±10 N·m (14.0±1.0 kgf·m).
