Checking the lateral and radial runout of wheels (BMW X5 E53)

The lateral and radial runout of the wheels must be checked in the following order. Check the wheel hub bearings; they must be in good condition. Prepare the "36.1.030" device – a measuring device. Raise the car and place it on supports. Check the lateral runout of the wheel using the "36.1.030" device (Fig. 15.4). Compare the measurement results with the technical specifications given above.

Check the radial runout of the wheel using the "36.1.030" device (Fig. 15.5). Compare the measurement results with the technical specifications given above. If necessary, mark the position of the balancing weights and remove them.



Check the lateral runout of the disc using the "36.1.030" device (Fig. 15.6). Compare the measurement results with the technical specifications given above.



Check the radial runout of the disk using the "36.1.030" device (Fig. 15.7). Compare the measurement results with the technical specifications given above.





Checking the lateral and radial runout of the wheel assembly on the balancing stand must be carried out in a similar order. To balance the wheel assembly, use weights installed on the wheel rim.
