Refueling (BMW X5 E53)

The M54 and M62 engines of the car are designed to operate on unleaded gasoline - "Super-Plus" (AI-98), the use of gasoline "Super" or "Euro-Super" (AI-95) is allowed, the lower limit of the gasoline used is regular, unleaded gasoline - AI-91.

If the car does not have an exhaust gas neutralizer, it is permissible to use leaded gasoline, not lower than AI-91. M57 engines are designed to run on diesel fuel (DIN EN 590). During the cold season, it is necessary to use winter grades of diesel fuel.

The fuel tank capacity is 93 liters, including a reserve supply when the vehicle is equipped with M54 and M57 engines - 8 liters, and the M62 engine - 10 liters.

Remove the fuel tank cap and install it in the bracket on the hatch. To refuel, insert the fuel gun into the filler neck pipe. After refueling, insert the cap and turn it clockwise until you hear a distinct click.

BMW X5 E53 Fuel Filler Cap Under Certain Circumstances (electrical equipment failure) can also be opened manually, for this:


  • take hold of the handle of the right cover in the trim of the right side of the luggage compartment and lift it up:
  • pull the button with the gas pump symbol towards you.

Caution! To ensure normal engine operation and to avoid engine damage, there must always be some fuel left in the tank.
