Rear view mirrors (BMW X5 E53)
The outside rear-view mirrors (Fig. 1.45) provide an overview of the traffic situation behind the vehicle. The position of the rear-view mirror is adjusted using the key switches on the control panel.
Key (1, Fig. 1.45) four-position and provides movement of the mirror in four directions. The switch (2, arrows) allows you to select an adjustable mirror. The mirror folding/unfolding key (3) is an optional feature.
When moving the mirror control key (2) to the position "Fahrerspiegel" ("Mirror on the driver's side") and the reverse gear is engaged on the gearbox. The mirror farthest from the driver will tilt so that it allows you to see the lower part of the side of the car and the edge of the curbstone. Electrical heating of the rear-view mirrors is carried out depending on the outside air temperature and occurs automatically when the ignition key is set to position "2".
The interior rearview mirror has a control that allows you to reduce the glare of headlights of cars moving behind you, for which you need to move the lever (arrow, Fig. 1.46).
The illuminated vanity mirror is located on the back of the sun visor. To use it, you need to fold the visor down and move its cover to the side, while the backlight will turn on if the ignition key is in position "1".
The sun visors can not only be folded down, but also moved towards the side windows, providing shading to the necessary areas of the interior.

Attention! The convex reflective surface of the far mirror and partially the near mirror transmit a somewhat distorted picture of the rear view - removing objects, which does not allow you to really estimate the distance to them.
