Inflatable airbags (BMW X5 E53)

Inflatable air bags (IAB) are designed to protect the driver and front passenger in frontal and side collisions. In the event of an accident, only those IABs that are located on the side of the impact are activated. The placement of the IABs is shown in Fig. 1.51, where: 1 — front IABs, 2 — front and rear head IABs, 3 — front and rear side IABs.



The airbag system is activated when the ignition key is turned to position "1", and the system indicator lights up and goes out. Constant lighting of the airbag indicator on the instrument panel signals a malfunction in the airbag system.

Attention! NBP are pyrotechnic products and require special attention. All testing and installation work must be carried out by trained specialists. When driving, hands should rest only on the steering wheel rim.
