Manual transmission (MT)
Manual transmission (MT) is installed in two versions, and each version has its own design features, but their controls are identical. The position of the gearshift lever is shown in Fig. 1.53.
In the neutral position, the gearshift lever is automatically set to the 3rd and 4th gear engagement line, shown as a dot in the figure. When shifting from any gear to "neutral", the lever, under the action of the springs, tends to return to this point.
All forward gears have synchronizers that allow easy and silent gear shifting. To engage 5th/6th gear or reverse gear, it is necessary to press the lever to the right or left, respectively, to prevent 3rd or 4th gear from engaging.
Reverse gear can only be engaged when the vehicle is stationary, by pressing the lever to the left with some force; the reversing lights will automatically turn on if the ignition key is in position "2".
When the engine is running, shift gears only with the clutch pedal fully depressed to avoid damage to the gear teeth of the manual transmission and the sound of grinding. When stopped on an incline, do not hold the car with a slipping clutch. It is necessary to use the parking brake for this purpose. Clutch slippage leads to its intensive wear.
Caution! When driving, do not keep your hand on the gear shift lever, as the pressure of your hand is transferred to the shift forks and causes their premature wear.
