Replacing the fuel filter (BMW X5 E53)

The fuel filter must be replaced in the following order. Turn off the ignition and protect the generator from contamination. Remove the left lower cover and prepare a container to collect the leaking fuel. Loosen the clamp (1, Fig. 6.107) fuel hose.



Remove the bracket (2) and the fuel heating system (3) in the direction indicated by the arrow. Loosen the bolt (4) of the rubber-metal hinge of the fuel filter mount and remove the fuel filter unit (6) by moving it upwards.

The fuel filter should be installed in the reverse order, and it is necessary to:

• replace fuel filter (6);
• replace clamp (1);
• if necessary, replace the rubber-metal hinge (5);
• assemble the engine power supply system;
• to remove air from the fuel system, the system should be pumped by turning on the ignition for about 1 minute, this will activate the fuel pump and fill the fuel cooler with fuel, displacing the air.
