Removal and installation the shock absorber strut (BMW 3 Series E30)
Removal
Loosen the wheel bolts.
Raise the car.
Remove the wheel.
Remove the brake caliper and secure it to the body with wire, see section "Removal and installation brake pads of front disc brakes").
Caution: The brake hose remains connected, otherwise the brake system will need to be bled later.
Press the push rod "2" from the stabilizer "1". The figure also shows: "3" the transverse lever, "4" the shock absorber strut.
Loosen the steering tip joint nut. Press out the steering tip with a suitable puller (see section "Removal and installation steering tips").

Loosen the ball joint nut. Press out the ball joint with a suitable puller.
Press the shock absorber strut outward and remove it from the ball joint journal.
Support the shock absorber strut from below with a jack so that when its upper support is released, the strut does not fall.

3 Front axle beam
4 Thrust bearing
5 Coil spring
6 Shock absorber
7 Steering rod
8 Rack and pinion steering mechanism
9 Transverse arm
Loosen the mounting nuts on the strut column and pull the shock absorber strut down.

Installation
Insert the shock absorber strut from below and tighten it with new self-locking nuts to a tightening torque of 22 Nm.
Caution: Before installation, clean the steering tip and ball joint pivot pins.
Install the steering tip (see section "Removal and installation steering tips").
Insert the ball joint (connection of the transverse arm and shock absorber strut) and secure with a new self-locking nut with a tightening torque of 65 Nm.
Tighten the tension rod to the stabilizer with a tightening torque of 42 Nm.
Install the brake caliper (see section "Removal and installation brake pads of front disc brakes").
Screw the wheel.
Lower the car.
Tighten the wheel bolts crosswise to 110 Nm.
