Withdrawal
1. Moisten the windshield with water.
2. Turn on the wiper for a short time and stop it with the switch. Thus, the cleaner stops in its original position.
3. Disconnect the negative cable (-) battery with the ignition off. The battery is located in the luggage compartment behind the cover on the right side. For BMW 318i cars, the battery is located in the engine compartment.
Disconnecting the battery clears the fault memory of some controls. If necessary, read the fault memory before disconnecting the battery. Refer to Section Troubleshooting. It is desirable to carry out work in the conditions of a service station.
4. Mark the position of the wiper blade on the windshield. To do this, glue strips on the glass next to the brush.
5. Remove the covers from the wiper mounting on the left and right with a screwdriver.
6. Turn away nuts -1-.
7. Remove both levers using a conventional puller from the axles.
The levers sit very firmly and cannot be removed without a special tool. The opening of the puller jaws must be at least 16.3 mm. The accompanying illustration shows the BMW puller - 616000. However, the HAZET 1966-5 tool can also be used.
The illustration shows the lever of another car as an example.
8. Remove the dowel sleeves from the wiper arms.
Installation
9. Reinstall the lever and align it to the markings on the windshield.
10. Establish on an axis -2 - the adjusting plug -1- and push it flush with the lever -3-.
11. Fasten the lever with a torque of 25 Nm and after 15 minutes again with a torque of 25 Nm.
12. Put the cover on the fastening nut.
13. Install the second lever in the same way.
14. Connect the negative cable (-) battery with the ignition off. Set the clock.
