Keys with radio remote control
1. Keys from a single lock with radio remote control transmitters
2. A spare key to store in a safe place such as a wallet. This key to a single lock is not intended for permanent use
3. Door and ignition key
This key does not fit the locks of the trunk and glove box. This is convenient when you rent a car, for example, to a hotel parking lot.
Some symbols on the radio remote control buttons may differ from those shown in the illustrations.
Spare key
You can order it at a BMW service station upon presentation of documents.
Personal settings memory
Job Opportunities
You can customize the individual functions of your vehicle as you wish. It is possible to program some functions in the BMW workshop according to your needs.
It is possible to save settings to the vehicle memory block (Car Memory) and key (Key Memory). You can select up to four options for setting one function for four different drivers. The main thing at the same time is that each driver has his own key with a remote control. When the vehicle is unlocked using the radio remote control, it recognizes the corresponding owner as a result of communication with the key and carries out the corresponding settings stored in its memory. Outwardly, different keys differ in color stickers that come with the keys.
The Car Memory and Key Memory functions allow, for example, the memory seats to be set automatically to a user-friendly position.
# In this chapter, the descriptions of the functions whose settings can be stored in the custom settings memory are marked with this icon.
Electronic anti-theft system (immobilizer)
The electronic anti-theft system increases the degree of protection of your car from theft. In this case, you do not need to enable or configure anything. The system allows you to start the engine only with the keys to your car. At your request, the electronic circuits of individual keys can be blocked at BMW workshops (for example, if the key is lost). It is not possible to start the engine with a locked key.
The key contains an electronic device. The electronics of the car exchanges through the ignition lock individual for each car and constantly changing code signals with the key. The ignition, power and starter systems are only activated if the key is recognized as "mine".
If the key is handled carelessly, it can be damaged. In this case, starting the engine will be impossible.
Single lock
Operating principle
The single lock only works if both front doors are closed. A single lock provides simultaneous locking and, accordingly, unlocking:
- doors,
- trunk,
- filler caps.
You can put it into action:
- from the outside by inserting the key into the door lock, as well as using the radio remote control
- from the salon by pressing a special button
When a single lock is activated from the outside, the anti-theft system is simultaneously activated, which does not allow unlocking the doors with fuses or opening handles. Also activated (or deactivated) security alarm*.
In the event of an accident, a single lock is automatically unlocked, but the doors locked with fuses are not unlocked, refer to the following materials in this Section. In addition, the hazard warning lights and interior light are switched on.
Unlocking and locking doors from the outside
After getting out of the car, do not lock it if there are people in the cabin, as it will be impossible to open the doors from the inside.
For some export models, the burglar alarm can only be controlled by radio remote control. Unlocking the vehicle with the key causes the alarm to sound on these models. To turn off the alarm, press button 1 ("Unlock") or start the engine.
You will find other details about the security alarm in Section Security alarm.
Automatic opening and closing
The power windows and the sliding/tilting sunroof can be opened or closed by turning the key in the driver's door lock.
opening: With the door closed, hold the key in the "Unlock".
Closing: with the door closed, hold the key in position "lock up".
If you release the key, the movement of the windows and sunroof will stop.
Unlocking and locking manually (with a defect in electrical equipment)
By turning the key to the appropriate position, you can unlock or lock the driver's door.
Remote radio control of locks
The radio remote control makes it easy to unlock and lock the car. In addition, there are two additional functions that can only be realized with the radio remote control:
- Turning on the light in the cabin. This feature makes it easier for you to find your car left in the underground garage.
- Trunk opening. The trunk lid will open slightly, regardless of whether it was locked or not.
Simultaneously with unlocking / locking the vehicle, the anti-theft system and the burglar alarm* are deactivated / activated.
For some export models, the burglar alarm can only be controlled by radio remote control. Unlocking the vehicle with the key causes the alarm to sound on these models. To turn off the alarm, press button 1 ("Unlock") or start the engine.
Keys to a single lock
The key with the transmitter is the key to a single lock, see above.
Children in the car can lock the doors from the inside. Therefore, when leaving the car, always remove the key from the ignition and take it with you so that you can open the car from the outside again at any time.
Each press of the transmitter button is accompanied by a blinking LED. If the LED does not light up when the button is pressed, remote locking is no longer possible. The battery should be replaced. Unlocking and automatic opening
Unlocking: press button 1.
For some export models, the first time the button is pressed, only the driver's door is unlocked, when pressed again, all other locks are unlocked.
# At your request, each individual key can be programmed for this function.
Automatic opening: keep button 1 pressed. The power windows and sunroof will open.
Locking, alarming and automatic closing
Locking and arming: press button 2.
After getting out of the car, do not lock it if there are people in the cabin, as it will be impossible to open the doors from the inside.
Automatic closing*: keep button 2 pressed. The power windows and sunroof will close.
During the closing process, make sure that no one is caught in the windows or the sunroof. If you release the button, the closing process will stop immediately.
If on a car equipped with a burglar alarm (refer to section Security alarm), the automatic closing process of the windows and sunroof is interrupted, the vehicle must be unlocked again by pressing button 1 before the automatic closing process is continued. Otherwise, the tilt alarm sensor and the microwave interior protection sensor will turn off.
Turning on the light in the cabin and turning off the security tilt sensor *
Switching on the light: Without unlocking the car, press button 2.
Deactivating the tilt alarm sensor and microwave interior protection sensor: after locking the car, press button 2 again.
For more information, see Section Security alarm.
Opening the trunk lid
Press button 3.
Before driving, make sure that the trunk lid is not accidentally left open.
Same frequencies
In some areas, the operation of the radio remote control may be impaired because other systems or devices may be using the same frequency.
Unlocking and locking the doors from the inside
This button allows you to activate a single lock when the front doors are closed. This unlocks or locks all doors, the trunk and the fuel door, but does not activate the anti-theft system.
# At your request, such a setting option is possible, when a single lock will lock immediately after the start of movement. You can program each individual key for this function.
Unlocking and opening
There are two possibilities for this:
1. Unlock all doors by pressing the single lock button and then pull the handle above the armrest of the desired door.
2. Pull the desired door handle twice: the first pull will unlock the door and the second pull will open it.
Locking
There are two possibilities for this:
1. Lock all doors by pressing the single lock button.
2. Push in the door guards. To prevent unintentional locking, it is not possible to lock the open driver's door by pushing down its fuse.
In the event of an accident, doors locked with fuses will not automatically unlock. Therefore, when the car is moving, do not lock the doors with fuses.
Children in the car can lock the doors from the inside. Therefore, when leaving the car, always remove the key from the ignition and take it with you so that you can open the car from the outside again at any time.
Opening and closing the trunk lid
Lock
Only the keys to a single lock fit the trunk.
Separate trunk lock
With some force, turn the key to the right and remove it in a horizontal position.
Thus, the trunk is locked, and its lock is disconnected from a single lock. As a result, a person, such as a hotel clerk, who has received the door and ignition key from you, will not be able to open the trunk.
Opening from outside
Press the button in the handle (shown by arrow). The trunk lid will open slightly.
When the trunk is opened, its backlight turns on.
Unlocking and locking manually (with a defect in electrical equipment)
Insert the key from the single lock into the trunk lock and turn it to the left until it stops - the trunk lid will open slightly.
The trunk is locked again as soon as its lid is slammed shut.
Closing the trunk lid
Pens (shown by arrows) in the inner lining of the lid facilitate its closing.
To avoid injury, make sure that you do not pinch anyone when closing the trunk lid.
To prevent exhaust gases from entering the passenger compartment, the trunk lid must be closed when the vehicle is moving. If one day you still have to drive with the lid up, then:
- close all windows and the sliding/tilting sunroof,
- heating and ventilation systems or an automatic air conditioner, set to boost air supply, refer to Section Heater, ventilation and cabin air conditioning.
