Note. You will need a new pinch bolt and countershaft nut for installation.
Withdrawal
1. Chock the rear wheels and apply the parking brake. Raise the front of the car and place it on stands (cm. "Lifting and placing the car on supports"). Set the front wheels to the straight ahead position. Turn out screws and remove protection of a crankcase of the engine.
2. Mark with a marker or paint the position of the intermediate shaft relative to the steering column, between the shaft and the clutch, and between the clutch and the steering shaft. Note. On some models there are marks on the gear flange and on the steering gear housing. In this case, they must match (pic. 21.3).
3. Unscrew the tie bolts, then fold both parts of the shaft and remove the shaft from the vehicle (pic. 20.3).
4. Inspect the intermediate shaft pivot for wear or seizing of the pivot bearings. Also, inspect the rubber shaft sleeve for cracks or other damage. Make sure that the rubber has not peeled off the flanges. If the universal joint or rubber sleeve is damaged, the intermediate shaft assembly must be replaced.
Installation
5. Make sure the steering wheel and front wheels are in the straight ahead position.
6. Combine marks made before removal, then connect a shaft to a steering column, and the coupling to a steering mechanism.
7. Insert new tie bolts and tighten them to the correct torque. Lower the car to the ground.
