Air damper servo drive (BMW 5 Series E12)

Removal

Remove the air filter.

Disconnect the air damper servo connector.

Remove the air damper servo by unscrewing the four screws securing its flange.

Checking the technical condition

Make sure the choke lever rotates 360°.

Check the mobility of the air damper.

Connect the tester (in ohmmeter mode) to the terminals of the air damper servo drive and check the resistance of the actuator motor armature winding, which should be within 0.87-1.63 Ohm.

Connect the tester between one of the servo drive terminals and the latter's body and check the insulation resistance, which should be R=∞.

Note. The servo actuator motor armature winding resistance and insulation resistance can be checked directly on the vehicle. In this case, the armature winding resistance should be within 0.9-1.7 Ohm.

Installation

Make sure that the connecting rod and the air damper drive lever are in the correct position.

Install the air damper servo (it can only occupy one position) and tighten the servo flange mounting screws.

Connect the air damper servo connector.

Install the air filter.
