If your vehicle's radio is equipped with an anti-theft system, make sure you know the correct activation code before disconnecting the battery. Before disconnecting the wire, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument panel language.
If a message in a different language appears on the dashboard disk after connecting the battery, refer to Section Anti-theft audio system and instrument panel language.
Withdrawal
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect from the generator electric sockets, having remembered their arrangement. Depending on the amount of equipment on the vehicle, it may sometimes be easier to first remove the alternator from the brackets and then rotate it to the side to gain access to the connectors (shown by arrows), located on the back of the generator.
On some models, the air cleaner and air flow meter may need to be removed to gain access to the alternator.
3. Loosen the adjusting and fixing bolts of the generator and remove the drive belt (see chapter Car maintenance).
4. Remove adjusting and fixing bolts and separate the generator from the engine.
Installation
If you are replacing a generator, please bring your old generator with you when purchasing a new or refurbished generator. Make sure the new alternator is identical to the old one. Pay attention to the contacts - there should be the same number of them, they should have the same connectors and location as on the previous generator. Finally, pay attention to the identification numbers - they are stamped on the case or printed on a label attached to the case. Make sure the numbers on both generators are the same.
Many new generators do not come with a pulley, so it may be necessary to move the pulley from the old generator to the new one.
1. Installation is the reverse of removal.
2. After installing the generator, tighten the drive belt (see chapter Car maintenance). Check the charge voltage to make sure the alternator is working properly (see Section Checking the charge system).
