Removal and installation the oil pan (BMW 5 Series E34)
Removal
Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
Caution: When the battery is disconnected, the information in the electronic memory devices, such as the engine fault memory or the radio security code memory, is erased. When disconnecting the battery, follow the instructions in the section "Removal and installation the battery".
Remove the fan.
Raise the car.
Remove the engine compartment protective tray.
Drain the oil from the engine.
Disconnect the oil level sensor connector.
Loosen the muffler pipe fastening.
Unscrew the left and right engine mounts
Hook the engine with cables and lift it on a lift. If there is no suitable lift, pull a cable through the bars on the engine and slide a sufficiently strong pipe under the cable and rest it on sufficiently strong supports or on the gutters of the front wings.
Caution: Do not rest the pipe on the front fenders.

Engine M20: Unscrew the reinforcing pads.
Loosen the oil dipstick guide tube mounting bolt. Pull the guide tube out of the oil pan.

Loosen the bolts and remove the oil pan. The picture shows the M50 engine (4-valve). To loosen both rear "arrow" bolts, a narrow wrench head with an extension is required.
Installation
Clean the surfaces of the oil pan and engine block.
Cover the transitions at the covers with a universal sealing compound, such as Curil. For the M50 engine, BMW prescribes the use of the elastic compound "3 Bond 1207B black".
Glue the new gasket with grease, then check the position of the gasket.
Install the oil pan and tighten the bolts by hand. Then tighten the bolts to 10 Nm.
Screw on the reinforcing strips.
Insert the guide tube with a new O-ring and screw it on.
Connect the oil level sensor wire.
Tighten the engine mounts with a tightening torque of 45 Nm.
Fill the engine with oil. The marks on the rod indicate the oil level in the engine. The difference between the min and max marks is 1 liter.
Install the engine compartment protective tray.
Lower the car.
Connect the ground wire to the battery.
After a test drive, check the oil pan for leaks and, if necessary, carefully tighten all bolts.
Engine M30
Remove the air filter.
Remove the expansion tank with coolant.
Remove the engine compartment protective tray.
Unscrew the pump tension bar and move it to the side.
Unscrew the oil line bracket.
Unscrew the muffler bracket.
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
