Rear brake disc — removal and installation (BMW 7 Series E32)
Removal
Remove the rear brake caliper without unscrewing the brake hose, otherwise you will have to bleed the brakes after installation.
Hang the caliper on the wire on the body. Make sure that the brake hose is not stretched.
Loosen the mounting bolt using a 5mm Allen key.

Release the parking brake completely.
Remove the brake caliper. If it does not come off, move the parking brake shoes.
Installation
To ensure uniform braking on both sides, both brake discs must have the same wear pattern on the working surfaces and wear depth. Therefore, both brake discs on one axle must always be replaced or reground at the same time.
The workshop can check the runout of the brake discs. The maximum runout of the installed disc should be 0.2 mm.
Measure the thickness of the brake disc.
Clean new brake discs from protective varnish with solvent or acetone.
Install the brake disc on the rear wheel hub and secure it with a hexagon socket head bolt. Before doing this, you need to turn the disc so that the bolt holes line up.
Install the caliper with the brake pads inserted. The brake hose should not be twisted or stretched.
Caution: If the brake hose has been removed, tighten it and bleed the brakes.
Adjust the parking brake.
Install the rear wheels according to the marks made during removal. Do not lubricate the wheel bolts. Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel bolts crosswise to 100 Nm.
Note: With the vehicle stationary, press the brake pedal hard several times until you feel strong resistance. This will cause the brake pads to lie against the disc and take the appropriate working position.
Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir and, if necessary, top it up to the MAX mark.
Conduct a security check.
Carefully break in new brake discs in three stages.
- Stage 1: Five braking applications from a speed of 50 km/h with strong pressure on the pedal while driving on an empty road.
- Step 2 - Let the brakes cool.
- Stage 3 – five of the same braking from a speed of 50 km/h.
