2. Remove the upper engine cover.
3. Remove the upper air cleaner cover together with the MAF sensor (see section Replacing the air cleaner filter element Chapters Vehicle settings and routine maintenance).
4. Remove the plastic covers and the ignition coils located underneath.
5. Unscrew the mounting bolts and move the left and right cable boxes to the center.
6. Disconnect the positive battery cable in the engine compartment (see illustrations Engine Compartment Components).
7. Loosen the fasteners and remove the cylinder head cover.
8. Check the condition of the cylinder head cover gasket and replace the gasket if necessary.
9. Clean the sealing surfaces from gasket residues and lubricate the mating surfaces with Drei Bond 1209 sealant.

10. Install the cylinder head cover, center it on several bolts, then tighten the cover mounting bolts to the required torque in sequence from the middle to the edges.
