Air conditioner compressor (BMW X3 E83)

Removal and installation the air conditioning compressor



Attention:
  • High pressure in the refrigerant circuit.
  • Carry out repair work only when there is no pressure in the refrigerant circuit.
  • Avoid contact with refrigerant and refrigeration oil.
  • Observe safety requirements when handling R134a refrigerant.

Attention:
  • Only BMW recommended R134a refrigerant may be used.
  • Start the engine only when the air conditioner is charged according to all the rules.
  • If the air conditioner is left open for more than 24 hours, the air conditioner dehumidifier element needs to be replaced.


Note: The standard time for this operation does not include refrigerant recovery, vacuuming, and recharging of the air conditioner.


1. Remove the front panel of the unit protection.

2. Remove the pressure pipe.

Note: Only for modification with M57 engine.


3. Unscrew the fastening of the expansion tank of the cooling system, disconnect the connector and put the expansion tank of the cooling system aside.

Note: Only for modification with M54 engine.

Note: Do not disconnect the pressure lines on the active anti-roll bar.


4. Press the lock (1) of the tee (2) and disconnect the ventilation pipe (3) in the direction indicated by the arrow.

Note: When installing, ensure that the ventilation pipe (3) is positioned correctly in the tee (2).


5. Lower the anti-roll bar onto the front axle.

6. Unscrew nuts (1) and (2).

7. Remove the bracket (3).

Note: When installing, please ensure that the bracket (3) is positioned correctly.

8. Disconnect the connector (1).

9. Unscrew the bolts (2).

10. Disconnect the refrigerant pipes (3) in the direction indicated by the arrow.

Note: When installing, all O-rings must be replaced and lubricated with refrigeration oil.




Tightening torque: 20 Nm.

Note: Secure the air conditioner compressor (2) to prevent it from falling.

11. Remove the screws (1).

12. Remove the air conditioning compressor (2) in the direction indicated by the arrow.

13. Installation should be carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the above notes.

14. Evacuate and charge the air conditioner.
