5 - Key for switching on the AUC* mode or the air recirculation mode
6 - Key for turning on the air conditioner
7 - Key for turning on the fast heating of the windshield and side windows
8 - Keys for automatic air distribution (left-hand side). When a key is pressed, the corresponding LED lights up.
1, 3 - Temperature controller (left/right side)
The temperature in the cabin is set by turning the knob to the desired position (temperature in degrees Celsius indicated on a dial). The set temperature is quickly reached after starting the engine and usually remains unchanged, as it is maintained by the electronic controller.
To avoid large temperature fluctuations and excessive load on the heating system, turn the knobs gradually.
In both extreme positions of the regulator on the driver's side, automatic temperature control does not occur on either the left or right side, and the heater (or air conditioner) operates at full power. If the electronic temperature sensor fails, also set the regulator to one of the extreme positions.
2 - Switch-regulator of the intensity of the air supply
Position "0": The fan is off, there is no forced air supply.
Turn switch to the right (with output from a fixed position) turns on low fan speed and minimum air supply.
4, 8 - Keys for automatic air distribution (right/left side)
Air distribution is performed automatically depending on temperature conditions.
Air enters the passenger compartment in the following ways: through the air supply nozzles to the windshield and side front windows, through the guide and metering grills on the dashboard and front doors, and also through the grill on the upper side of the dashboard. In addition, air is supplied to the front of the cabin through air ducts under the dashboard, and to the rear through nozzles at the end of the center console.
After starting the engine in cold weather, air enters only through the defroster nozzles until the temperature of the heater reaches +30°C.
This program allows you to create a comfortable microclimate in the cabin in almost any weather conditions.
For optimal performance of the automatic air control system, do not cover all grilles on the instrument panel.
Air intake through all nozzles and grilles without automatic air flow control
This program is recommended in hot weather when ventilation or cooling of the lower part of the passenger compartment is required.
Attention: If the windshield and side windows freeze up while driving, and pressing the button 7 is undesirable: press the button, increase the air supply and adjust its output with the ventilation grilles.
Air intake only through the lower air ducts (in the front and in the back)
In this mode, the defroster nozzles are slightly open, and there is no air supply to the grilles at the end of the center console.
This program is used, for example, in cold weather, when ventilation is not needed and you want to quickly warm your feet.
Key for switching on the automatic control of outdoor air pollution (AUC) *
This system automatically controls the level of harmful substances in the outside air and, if necessary, blocks its entry into the car.
Sequential pressing of the key allows you to select three operating modes:
- The control lamps do not light up: outside air enters.
- The left control lamp is on: the system's sensors have registered an increased concentration of harmful substances in the outdoor air. If pollution increases, the air supply to the passenger compartment is automatically shut off and only the air in the passenger compartment will be used (recirculation mode).
- The right control lamp is on: the air recirculation mode is on.
Air recirculation button
This mode is recommended for heavily polluted outside air - the air in the cabin circulates and prevents the penetration of outside air.
Although the air conditioner automatically turns on the dehumidification mode to improve the air quality, it is not recommended to operate the recirculation mode for a long time.
Note: If the windows begin to mist up when the recirculation mode is switched on, switch this mode off (or AUC) and turn on the air conditioner by pressing button 6.
Air conditioner switch
When you press the button, the air conditioner turns on, starting from a temperature of +1°C. The control lamp signals the inclusion of the air conditioner. The air is cooled and dried.
In some cases, when the air humidity is high, it is recommended to periodically turn on the air conditioner so that excess moisture condenses on the evaporator, and the air in the cabin is thus dried.
At maximum cooling capacity, the system automatically switches to air recirculation mode (with little outside air) and the windshield vents are closed.
Fast heating button (and drying) windshield and side windows
The windows fog up due to differences in temperature outside and inside the car or due to high humidity in the cabin (condensation forms). In this case, the condensate can be quickly eliminated only by intensive supply of hot air directly to the glass.
After pressing this key, the fast glass heating mode is automatically turned on, no further action is required. The maximum effect is achieved only when the engine is warm. Pressing this key again automatically restores the previous mode of operation.
Note: When this button is pressed for the first time after starting the engine, the heated rear window is also switched on.
After stopping the engine, a characteristic sound may be heard, caused by the fact that the actuators of the automatic air conditioner set the valves of the air ducts to a stationary position.
Temperature distribution in the cabin for comfortable conditions: "warm feet - cold head"
Driver and front passenger
Adjustment of the air flow through the grilles on the dashboard and in the front doors is carried out by turning the knurled roller 1 (but not at maximum cooling capacity).
- Up: warmer.
- Down: colder.
Rear Passengers
It is possible to open and set to the desired position the gratings located on the center console. Only outside air passes through these grilles, and when the air conditioner is on, cooled air.
The ventilation of the rear part of the passenger compartment automatically stops when the driver switches on the following programs:
- AUTO — (only in cold weather)
- Air intake only through the lower air ducts
Microfilter*
The microfilter traps dust and pollen particles present in the air taken in from outside. Pollen is absorbed at 100% efficiency, dust at 60%. The filter is replaced as part of a maintenance service at a BMW workshop. The need for its early replacement can be determined by a significant decrease in the maximum air supply.
