Replacing the rear bumper trim (BMW X5 E53)

If you are replacing the rear bumper trim, you must remove it and use the rear bumper beam to install the new trim in the following order. Remove the rear bumper assembly, remove the expansion rivets, left and right shields. Remove the expansion rivets (1, Fig. 18.16) and remove the middle part (2) of the rear bumper (its beam).



Disconnect the damper (1, Fig. 18.17) from the bumper (2), holding it by the handle, remove the mounting washers and all rear ultrasonic transducers of the "PDC" system, if installed. Check that the trim fasteners are not damaged.
