Replacing both handbrake cables (BMW X5 E53)

Replacement of both handbrake cables must be carried out in the following order. Prepare the device "34.1.030", remove the parking brake release mechanisms and the corrugated boot of the parking brake drive lever. Using the device "34.1.030" (see fig. 11.34), completely unscrew the lock nuts and adjusting couplings from the cables.



Remove from holders (1, Fig. 11.42), from the guides on the body and from the wheel bearing support, the manual drive cable.



The installation of the parking brake drive cable should be carried out in the reverse order, while it is necessary to ensure that the parking brake drive cables are laid correctly. Upon completion of the work, adjust the parking brake and lock the adjusting couplings with lock nuts.
