Replacing the EGR radiator (BMW X5 E53)

Attention! Observe safety precautions when working on the cooling system. Protect the generator from contamination. Install the boost air hoses dry and degreased.


Install the charge air hoses dry and degreased. Replace the EGR radiator in the following order. Remove the soundproof casing and fan casing. Drain the coolant from the cooling system radiator.

If there is an automatic transmission, unlock and disconnect the hose (1, Fig. 6.153) automatic transmission cooling system. Loosen the clamps (3 and 4) on the AGR system radiator (eGR). Loosen the radiator bracket bolts (1) and remove it.

If present, remove the radiator thermostat (arrow) of the EGR system.

The EGR radiator should be installed in the reverse order, replacing the sealing ring between the radiator and its thermostat. Tighten the radiator clamps to 8.0 N·m (0.8 kgf·m). Assemble the engine. Bleed the cooling system and check it for leaks.
