Replacing the charge air hoses (BMW X5 E53)
Replacing the left boost air hose
The left charge air hose must be replaced in the following order: Check the operation of the "DDE" system. Remove the front panel of the engine auxiliary mechanisms and the soundproof casing.
Unlock the locking bracket and disconnect the pressure pipe. Release the pressure pipe (5) at points (a and b). Release the cable from the clamps (7) and disconnect the SS from the charge air temperature sensor (8). Remove the pressure pipe (5).
When installing the pressure pipe, visually inspect the shaped sealing ring (1, Fig. 6.146) for correct position and absence of damage. Lubricate all mounting supports with grease (2) to facilitate sliding. Install the locking bracket (4). Put on the pressure pipe (3) in the direction indicated by the arrow.

The VDA couplings are installed correctly if they click into place with an audible click. Check the operation of the "DDE" system and check the pressure pipes for leaks.
Replacing the right boost air hose
The right charge air hose must be replaced in the following order. Check the operation of the "DDE" system. Remove the front panel of the engine auxiliary mechanisms and the soundproof casing. Remove the air intake hose.
Note: Do not remove the bolt (2, Fig. 6.147).

Remove the bolt (1, Fig. 6.147) and turn the locking ring (3) in the direction indicated by the arrow. Remove the pressure pipe (4).
Unlock the locking bracket (12, see Fig. 6.145), disconnect and remove the pressure pipe (1).

When installing the pressure pipe, visually inspect the shaped sealing ring (3, see Fig. 6.145) for correct position and absence of damage.

Apply grease to all mounting supports (1, Fig. 6.148) to facilitate sliding. Fix the locking clip in the pressure pipe (2) and push it on in the direction of the arrow. The VDA couplings are installed correctly if they click into place with a distinct click. Check the operation of the "DDE" system and check the pressure pipes for leaks.
