Replacing the coolant manifold (BMW X5 E53)

Since the engine has two cylinder heads, the coolant is drained in parallel, thanks to the manifold (1, Fig. 4.107).



Remove the intake manifold and stiffener plate. Unscrew the plug from the coolant drain hole on the right side of the cylinder block, drain the coolant and send it for disposal.

Loosen the clamps and disconnect the cooling system hoses from the manifold. Unscrew the left and right bolts (3, M6), three bolts on each side, and remove the manifold.

Clean the surfaces under the sealing gaskets. Replace the sealing gasket and tighten the bolt (M14x.5) of the drain hole on the cylinder block to a torque of 25 N·m (2.5 kgf·m). Install the stiffening panel and fill the engine cooling system, bleed air from the cooling system and check it for leaks.
