2. Remove the air cleaner as described in chapter 4A.
3. Position a lifting device above the engine and attach the lifting device's strap to the front engine rigging bracket.
4. Turn away nuts of fastening of the left and right support of the engine to a stretcher (pic. 15.4).
5. Set the front wheels to straight ahead and lock the steering.
6. Turn out a coupling bolt of a cardan hinge of a steering column and disconnect a steering shaft from a gear wheel of the steering mechanism (pic. 15.6).

8. Turn out back bolts of the lower suspension arms (pic. 15.8).
9. Support the center of the subframe with a jack with a block of wood.
10. Turn out bolts of fastening of a subframe and lower it a little on a jack (pic. 15.10).
Warning. Let the steering mechanism hang on the hoses.
11. Installation of the subframe is carried out in the reverse order, taking into account the following notes.
- A) Tighten the rear subframe bolts first.
- b) Use new bolts to fasten the subframe and amplifier.
- V) Tighten all fasteners to the required torque. if it is regulated by the Technical data.
Withdrawal
Note. After installing the subframe, be sure to check and adjust the wheel alignment on the BMW equipment.
12. On models with the N42 engine, remove the air cleaner as described in chapter 4A.
13. Place a lifting device over the engine and hook the lifting device's sling onto the engine's front rigging bracket.
14. Remove the nuts that secure the left and right engine mounts to the subframe brackets.
15. Set the front wheels to straight ahead and lock the steering.

- b) Tighten the rear subframe bolts first.
- V) Tighten all fasteners to the required torque, if specified in the Technical Data.
- G) Check and adjust wheel alignment on BMW equipment as soon as possible.
