Generator specifications (BMW 5 Series E12)
On BMW "518", "520" and "520i" of the first model years were equipped with a three-phase alternator of the Bosch brand with a built-in rectifier unit and electronic voltage regulator, and on the "525" and "528" - with a separate voltage regulator.

Since the 1978 model year, the BMW "525" and "528" have been equipped with a generator with catalog number 0 120 489 650 instead of the generator with catalog number 0 120 489 610, the maximum rotor speed of which is 15,000 rpm.
The 528i model cars were equipped with a Bosch generator, part number 0 120 489 621, with a built-in voltage regulator and the following characteristics:
The drive belts of these generators are V-belts, small width, size 12.5x606 LA.
Since the 1978 model year, the following brands of noise suppression capacitors have been installed:

Since the 1980 model year, all models of vehicles were equipped with Bosch brand generators with a built-in voltage regulator.
Since the 1982 model year, the BMW "520i" was equipped with a generator with the catalog number 0 120 489 718, and the "525i" and "528i" - with the number 0 120 489 029.
The generator is driven by a V-belt of the Ventiflex 1108 brand (9.5x875) "518", "520"; ventifiex 1112 (9.5x975) brand on the "520i" model; brand Aatbelt 2212 DA (12.5x1060) on "525", "528".
Since the 1980 model year, the BMW "520" used a belt with dimensions 9.5x950.
Brand: Bosch AD 1/14 V.
Nominal voltage. V: 12.
Working voltage, V: 14.
Output current A/at rotor speed, rpm: 35/2700.
Adjustable voltage range at 20°C, V: 13.5-14.2.
Maximum excitation current, A: 3.
Since model year 1978 on BMW "525", "528" and "528i" was equipped with a built-in generator voltage regulator of the Bosch brand, catalog No.0 192 052 004, type EE 14 V 3.
Adjustable voltage, V: 14.1.
Adjustable voltage limits, V: 13.7-14.5.
Since the 1980 model year, the regulated voltage limits at 2000 rpm on all model vehicles are 13.5-14.6 V.
Since the 1982 model year, the BMW "520i" was equipped with a Bosch voltage regulator, part number 0 192 052 006, and the "525i" and "528i" were equipped with a regulator with part number 1 197 311 004, the adjustable voltage limits of which remained the same.

- rated voltage, V: 14;
- maximum output current, A: 65;
- maximum power at 14 V and maximum output current, W: 910;
- rotor speed at the moment the charging current starts to flow to the battery, rpm: 1060.
The drive belts of these generators are V-belts, small width, size 12.5x606 LA.
Since the 1978 model year, the following brands of noise suppression capacitors have been installed:
- "525": Vega 0 310 024 015;
- "528": Bosch 0 290 800 036;
- "528i": Bremicker 4066.
Control voltage, V:
- Vegi and Bosch: 150;
- Bremicker: 200±20.
Capacity, μF:
- Beru: 2,2;
- Bosch and Bremicker: 2.2±20%.
Since the 1980 model year, all models of vehicles were equipped with Bosch brand generators with a built-in voltage regulator.

Since the 1982 model year, the BMW "520i" was equipped with a generator with the catalog number 0 120 489 718, and the "525i" and "528i" - with the number 0 120 489 029.

- Maximum power, W: 910.
- Maximum rotor speed, rpm: 15000.
- Capacity of the noise suppression capacitor, μF: 2.2±20%.
Generator drive belt
The generator is driven by a V-belt of the Ventiflex 1108 brand (9.5x875) "518", "520"; ventifiex 1112 (9.5x975) brand on the "520i" model; brand Aatbelt 2212 DA (12.5x1060) on "525", "528".
Since the 1980 model year, the BMW "520" used a belt with dimensions 9.5x950.
