Withdrawal
Although shock absorbers do not always wear out at the same time, be sure to replace the left and right shock absorbers as a pair to prevent loss of control and change in the normal course of the vehicle.
1. Loosen the wheel bolts, then block the front wheels. Jack up the vehicle and place it securely on axle stands. Remove wheels.
2. Give the bottom bolt of fastening of the shock-absorber.
3. On earlier models, fold back the trim inside the luggage compartment just enough to allow access to the top mounting nuts. On later models, first remove the rear seat cushion to do this (see chapter Body), then loosen the two rear seat backrest mounting bolts and remove the backrest. Support the trailing arm with a jack and remove the upper fastening nuts.
4. Lower the jack and remove the shock absorber and gasket. To separate the shock absorber from the spring, refer to Section Strut or shock/coil spring replacement.
Installation
1. Install in reverse order. Don't forget to install a spacer between the top end of the shock absorber and the body. Tighten the top nuts to the required torque. Do not tighten the bottom bolt until the vehicle is lowered to the ground.
2. Lower the vehicle and at normal operating height, tighten the bottom bolt to the correct torque.
