Since working on the system is potentially dangerous, we strongly recommend that all work related to the air conditioning system be carried out by a BMW dealer or air conditioning specialist. At least don't remove any system components (hoses, compressor, fittings, etc.) until the system is completely discharged by a qualified technician. Read the precautions at the beginning of the Section Air Conditioner Maintenance and Precautions.
When installing a new condenser, the battery/dehydrator should also be replaced (see Section Removal and installation of the accumulator / dehydrator of the air conditioning system).
Withdrawal
1. Discharge the air conditioning system (see warning above).
2. Remove the radiator (see Section Removal and installation of a radiator) on all models except E34 models. Lastly, remove the front bumper (see chapter Body).
3. Remove the grille (see chapter Body).
4. Unbolt the auxiliary fan from the condenser mounting brackets.
5. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the condenser.
6. Give fixing bolts from condenser brackets.
7. Remove the condenser from the vehicle and seal the exposed fittings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering them.
8. If you are going to install the same condenser again, place it on the shelf with the fittings facing up so that no oil will leak out.
Installation
1. Install all components in the reverse order of removal. Don't forget to install rubber gaskets under the condenser.
2. Have the system drained, charged, and leak tested by the same qualified person who discharged it.
