Late model cars
Examination
The ignition coil is checked using an ohmmeter.
Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
Remove the ignition coil cover and disconnect the wires from the coil.
If the plug (S) is pressed out of the ignition coil, replace the coil.

Check the coil for cracks; if there are any, replace the coil.
Measure the resistance of the secondary winding of the coil. To do this, connect an ohmmeter to terminals 15 and 4. Replace the ignition coil only if the measured values differ greatly from the values presented below, or if there are problems with the ignition.

Connect the electrical wires to the ignition coil.
Put on the protective cover.
Connect the ground wire to the battery.
Caution: When replacing, do not install a coil designed for a contact ignition system under any circumstances. This may result in failure of the control unit.
Note: The twelve-cylinder model has one coil for each bank of cylinders, two in total. Ignition coils are not repairable and are replaced if damaged.
