Early model cars
Remove the distributor cap and take out the distributor rotor.

Check the distributor rotor housing surface for cracks and burn marks. Replace the distributor rotor if necessary.
The lid must be dry on the inside.
Check the connecting contacts for wear and corrosion. If necessary, clean them with sandpaper.
Check the central carbon contact for ease of movement and wear by pressing the contact with your finger.
Check the distributor cap for leakage currents, which are visible as thin, irregular marks on the surface of the distributor cap. 5 Wipe the cap with a clean, dry cloth and check for cracks. If there are any, replace the cap. Then apply an aerosol contact protector to the inside of the cap.
Measure the resistance of the runner, which should be between 0.7 and 1.3 kOhm.
