Removal and installation switches (BMW 7 Series E38)
Basically, to remove any switch, circuit breaker, or circuit breaker assembly, you have to push it out of the panel and disconnect the connector. Below are some unusual switch removal procedures.
Steering column switches
1. Set the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position and do not turn it during repairs.
2. Remove the steering wheel and steering column covers (see chapter Suspension and steering).

3. Disconnect the connector (1) from the switch mount on the steering column. If equipped, disconnect the connector (2) from the steering column adjustment switch.

4. Disconnect the connector (1) from the windshield wiper control switch.

5. Disconnect the connector (2) from the exterior lighting control switch (1).

6. Loosen the screws (1) and remove the switch mount (2) from the steering column.

7. Release the clamps (1) and remove the windscreen wiper control switch (2) with an upward movement.

8. If equipped, lift the lock (1) in the direction of the arrow, slide the steering column adjustment switch (2) in the direction of the arrow and remove it.

9. Release the clamps (1) and remove the exterior lighting control switch (2).
Single lock and alarm switches
1. Remove the transmission control lever cover.
2. Press the corresponding switch from the center console below, disconnect the connector and remove the switch.
