Replacing the fuel pressure regulator (BMW 7 Series E38)

Models with M52 engine



Depending on the vehicle version, the fuel pressure regulator can be installed in one of three places: on the branch of the distribution line, on its rear part, or on the bottom of the vehicle.


Execution 1



1. Remove the branch of the distribution line with injectors (see section Removal and installation of fuel distribution line and injectors).

2. To remove the fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail, disconnect the vacuum hose and remove the retaining ring.

3. While observing the position of the vacuum hose connection, use a rotational motion to pull out the pressure regulator.

When installing, replace the sealing rings (1 and 2). Make sure that the sealing surfaces are not contaminated.

4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Make sure that the protrusion on the retaining ring enters the grooves on the branch of the distribution line.

2. Disconnect the vacuum hose (1), remove the retaining clip (2) and the fuel pressure regulator.

1. Remove the branch of the distribution line with injectors (see section Removal and installation of fuel distribution line and injectors).

2. Disconnect the vacuum hose and remove the retaining clip.

3. Follow the steps described in the paragraphs 3 and 4.

Models with M52TU engine



1. Remove the cabin filter and open the one located at the bottom (2) its body cable channel. Pull the cables out. Unscrew the bolts (1) and remove the bottom part (2) cabin filter housing.

2. Remove the bolt caps and unscrew them. Remove the injector cover (see illustration).

3. Disconnect the vacuum hose (1) from the fuel pressure regulator.



4. Follow the steps described in the paragraphs 3 and 4.

Models with M60 engine



1. Remove the top engine cover.

The fuel pressure regulator is located on the rear side of the intake system, near the ECM compartment.

2. Disconnect the vacuum hose.

3. Remove the retaining ring (see illustration).

4. Follow the steps described in the paragraphs 3 and 4.

Models with M62 engine



Depending on the vehicle version, the fuel pressure regulator can be installed in one of three places: in the rear distribution line outlet, in the two-position three-way valve, or in the fuel filter.


1. Replacing the fuel pressure regulator installed on the branch of the distribution line (version 1) is carried out in the same way as replacing the regulator on models with the M62 engine. The procedure for replacing the pressure regulator in the version 2 and 3.



2. Remove the front right section of the underbody protection.

3. Disconnect the vacuum hose (1), pull out the retaining clip (2) in the direction of the arrow, and remove the fuel pressure regulator (3).

4. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Replace the fuel pressure regulator sealing rings.

Models with M73 engine

3. Installation is carried out in the reverse order. Replace the fuel pressure regulator sealing rings.
