Front suspension cross member (BMW X3 E83)

Replacing the front suspension cross member



Caution: Secure the engine in its mounting position to prevent it from falling.


1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

2. Remove the front wheels.

3. Disconnect both rods from the front suspension crossmember.

4. Disconnect both transverse suspension arms from the front suspension crossmember.

5. Disconnect the left steering rod end from the steering support.

Note: For modification with M47 T2 or N46 engine.


6. Disconnect the right steering rod from the steering gear.

Note: For modification with M47 T2 or N46 engine.


7. Disconnect the power steering pressure line from the front suspension crossmember.

8. Disconnect the anti-roll bar from the front suspension crossmember and tie it up.

9. Disconnect the steering gear from the front suspension crossmember and tie it up.

10. Lower the front suspension crossmember onto a suitable support.


10. Lower the front suspension crossmember onto a suitable support.

11. Disconnect the engine mount cushions from the front suspension crossmember on both sides and, if necessary, remove them from the crossmember along with the vacuum lines.

12. Remove the left and right stone guards from the front suspension crossmember.



Note: For rearrangement and replacement of small parts, use the old front suspension cross member as a reference.


13. Installation should be carried out in the reverse order of removal, taking into account the above notes.

14. Check and adjust the wheel alignment angles.

15. Perform steering wheel angle sensor correction.
