The design of the counters and indicator varies depending on the configuration of your vehicle.

Total mileage counter

When the ignition key is set to position 0, you can display the meter readings by pressing the button on the instrument panel (shown by arrow).

Odometer since reset

The reset occurs when the button shown by the arrow is pressed, if the ignition key is in position 1 or 2.

Outside air temperature indicator

Starting with the key in position 1, the outside air temperature is displayed. Displaying with the ignition off: press the button.

Ice warning

When the temperature drops below +3°C, a warning sound is heard and the indicator flashes for a while.

The warning is repeated if, since the last signal, the temperature has risen to +6°C at least once and then dropped back to +3°C.

Despite the presence of an ice warning system, the possibility of its formation cannot be ruled out (for example, on bridges and shaded areas of roads) also at temperatures above +3°C.

Tachometer

Tachometer

Avoid bringing the engine speed to the red sector of the scale. In this range, the fuel supply is interrupted to protect the engine, which is noticeable by a drop in power.

Econometer

Econometer

The economizer registers the actual fuel consumption in l/100 km. You can monitor at any time how economical and environmentally friendly your driving style is.

When the car stops, the arrow returns to zero.

Fuel tank indicator

Fuel tank indicator

To check the operation of the device, its control lamp lights up for a while when the ignition is turned on.

If the lamp is constantly on, it means that the following amount of fuel remains in the tank:
  • about 8 l - BMW 520i, 523i, 528i, 525tds
  • about 10 l - BMW 535i, 540i

The fuel tank capacity data is presented in Specifications.

Different angle of inclination of the car (for example, when driving for a long time on a mountain road) may cause minor fluctuations in the instrument readings. Please refuel in a timely manner, as driving "to the last drop" may cause damage to the engine or catalytic converter.

Coolant temperature gauge

Coolant temperature gauge

Arrow on the blue sector

The engine is still cold. Movement should occur at moderate speeds and revs.

Arrow on the red sector

If the warning light flashes or the automatic diagnostics display "shows the message 'Kuhlwassertemperatur' "(Coolant temperature), then this means that the engine is overheated. In this case, you should stop immediately and let the engine cool down.

The scale area between the colored sectors

Corresponds to normal operating temperature. At high outside temperatures or under heavy engine loads, the needle may approach the red sector. Check the coolant level in accordance with the recommendations Chapters 1.

Maintenance due indicator

The design of the indicator varies depending on the configuration of your vehicle.

Green signals

The fewer green lights remain, the closer the service deadline.

Yellow signal

This signal appears in combination with the messages OILSERVICE or INSPECTION. It lights up when the corresponding maintenance is due.

Red signal

The next maintenance deadline has been missed.

Clock symbol

Reminder about the time when the brake fluid needs to be replaced.

The indicator does not take into account the time the vehicle is parked with the battery terminals disconnected.

However, in order to comply with the established frequency of replacing brake fluid, it is necessary to take this time into account.
