Seals — replacement (BMW 7 Series E32)
Note: The seals are installed with the sealing lips inward (to the engine).
Front camshaft oil seal
Remove only the upper timing chain cover.
Place the cover on two wooden blocks and push out the seal using a hammer and screwdriver. Be very careful not to damage the walls of its mounting hole.
Coat the outside edge and sealing lip of the new seal with multi-purpose grease and drive it into the cover using a hammer and a socket slightly smaller in diameter than the outside diameter of the seal.
Next, install in the reverse order of removal.
Front crankshaft oil seal
Remove the crankshaft pulley and vibration damper.
Carefully pry the old seal out of the cover using a large screwdriver. Be very careful not to scratch the walls of the mounting hole or the crankshaft. Wrap the end of the screwdriver with tape to prevent damage.
Clean the holes in the cover and coat the outside edge of the new seal with motor oil or multi-purpose grease. Lubricate the sealing lips of the seal with multi-purpose grease. Using a hammer and a socket with an outside diameter slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the seal, carefully tap the new seal into place.

Inspect the seal after installation to ensure that the spring around the inside of the lip has not popped out of place.
Next, install in the reverse order of removal.
