Caution: Make sure the engine is completely cool before working on the exhaust system.
Disconnect the ground wire from the battery.
On models where the air filter is on the exhaust manifold side, remove the air filter housing assembly and/or airflow sensor to create sufficient working space.
Disconnect and move the spark plug harness to the side.
Tag, then disconnect or remove any wires, hoses, fittings, etc. that interfere with manifold removal. Remember to disconnect the oxygen sensor where used.
Jack up the vehicle and place it securely on axle stands. Working under the vehicle, separate the exhaust pipe from the manifold. Apply a special rust softener to the joint to facilitate removal.
Lower the car to the ground. Moving from the ends of the manifold towards the center, gradually loosen the fixing nuts and remove them.
Take the manifold away from the cylinder head, then remove the old gaskets.
Caution: Be very careful not to damage the oxygen sensor.
Clean the gasket mating surfaces of the cylinder head and manifold and check that the exhaust manifold strut threads are not damaged.
Inspect the manifold for deformation, cracks, signs of corrosion or other damage. Repair or replace items as needed.
When installing the manifold, use new gaskets. Moving from the center to the ends of the manifold, gradually tighten the nuts of its fastening to the cylinder head with the required torque. Tighten also the nuts securing the exhaust pipe to the manifold.
Then install in the reverse order of removal.
