Replacing eccentric shaft sensors (BMW X5 E53)

The left eccentric shaft sensor on cylinder bank 5–8 must be removed in the following order: Remove the left cylinder head cover, unscrew the bolts (arrows, Fig. 5.157) and remove the eccentric shaft sensor (1).



The sensor should be installed in the reverse order, and it is necessary to: Read information from the ECU-KSUD fault memory. Record messages and eliminate faults. Erase information from the fault memory.

Removal of the right eccentric shaft sensor on cylinder side 1–4 should be carried out in the same way as on cylinder side 5–8.
