Replacing eccentric shaft drive motors (BMW X5 E53)

The replacement of the left eccentric shaft drive motor on cylinder bank 5–8 must be carried out in the following order. Remove the soundproofing casing, ignition coil casing. Unlock IIIC (17, see Fig. 5.5) and disconnect it from the drive motor (16). Unscrew the bolts, turn the drive motor so that it disengages from the toothed rim of the eccentric shaft (1). Remove the motor.



When installing, it is necessary to replace the sealing rings on the spacer. Insert the engine (1, Fig. 5.156) drive and push it in, turning it, up to the spacer. Turn the drive motor so that it takes its original installation position in the spacer.



Insert and tighten the bolts. Read information from the ECU-KSUD fault memory. Record messages and eliminate faults. Erase information from the fault memory.

The replacement of the left eccentric shaft drive motor on the cylinder side 1–4 should be carried out in the same order as for cylinders 5–8.
