Replacing electromagnetic valves (BMW X5 E53)

            0

Removal of both left electromagnetic valves (EMV) on cylinder bank 5–8 must be carried out in the following order. Read information from the ECU fault memory. Switch off the ignition. Remove the decorative cover. Unlock and disconnect the hose on the fuel tank ventilation valve.

EMC (1, Fig. 5.144) controls the intake actuator, the EMC (2) controls the exhaust actuator. Unlock and disconnect the plug-in connection (PC) of the EMC (1 and 2). Loosen the bolts and remove the holders (3) and remove the EMC (1 and 2).

When installing, check the holders (3) for deformations and replace the holders if necessary. Clean the sealing surfaces on the cylinder head.

Replace the sealing rings (1 and 2, Fig. 5.145) round cross-section on the electromagnetic valve (3) and lubricate them with engine oil. Press the EMC in until it stops.

Pay attention to the correct position of the installed holders (3, see Fig. 5.144), insert and tighten the bolts.

Read information from the fault memory of the ECU KSUD (integrated engine management system – DME). Check the received fault records, eliminate them and erase the information from the fault memory.

The replacement of both right solenoid valves on cylinder bank 1-4 should be carried out in a similar order. In this case, it is necessary to remove the upper part of the air filter housing together with the air flow meter and the suction hose.
